The War on Truth

truth word

Have you noticed the attack we’ve been embroiled in lately?  It seems like every time we turn on the tv, look at our phone or listen to those around us we’re faced with a choice. Do we believe or not believe? It used to be so simple. Truth was the norm. Now lies run amok.

What’s really going on here?

It’s a strategic plan which is this: Get us to doubt what we already know to be true. If we start to doubt truth, then we can be manipulated to believe just about any lie after that.

The devil has been employing this tactic since the beginning of time. Remember in Genesis when the devil said to Eve, “You, surely, will not die (if you eat the fruit from that tree).” This was enough to cause Eve to doubt the truth she already knew. Once doubt finds a way in, manipulation and sin aren’t far behind.

Don’t think this tactic is relegated only to spiritual issues.  Satan has been using people to chip away at truth throughout history. A current example of this is the idea that gender isn’t a fixed, proven, and scientific fact.  We are being told you can wake up one day and decide whether you are male or female – that the truth of science is irrelevant. Why?

The real goal is the destruction of truth masked as social inclusiveness.

Why is this strategy so effective?

trojan horse

The more truth is nullified, the more it’s taken out of play. The devil can’t win if truth is front and center.  He must attempt to destroy it. So, here’s what happens: little by little the lies sneak in. First, the lies are surrounded by truth and hard to see (a trojan horse effect). Over time the lies get bigger and the truth gets smaller. Eventually we’re left with just a lie or a truth too tiny to see anymore.

When we begin to doubt truth, our once well-fortified stronghold gets weakened and riddled with holes. Pretty soon our very foundation begins to crumble. It doesn’t take much effort after that for our opponent to walk in and take over. They barely even had to get their hands dirty.

Yes, lies are a highly effective weapon for the devil but the good news is this: that’s really all he’s got.

So, how do we fight the invasion?

The greatest weapon we have is truth. We won’t win the battle by using satan’s tactics. We can’t “out lie” him. We win by using God’s tactics. We must firmly plant ourselves in the midst of truth. How?

1st) Spend time with God and read His words. The more we do this, the more truth is revealed. Absorb it!

2nd) Make sure you surround yourself with truthful people.

3rd) Be discerning of what you hear and what you believe (it’s okay to verify things – even from friends).

4th) Be mindful of the words you speak and write so you’re not helping spread lies. Verify before passing information on.

There is no scenario where truth doesn’t defeat a lie.  Sure, there are times when it looks like lies are definitely winning the battle, but they will never win the war.  It simply isn’t possible. God is truth and truth will always prevail.
