Sounds ominous, doesn’t it. Fear is a weapon of mass destruction (WMD) and with it the devil is hijacking our peace and trying to control our lives. Its job is simple – to manipulate us! The effect it has on our lives usually manifests itself in one of three ways.
It paralyzes us. It stops us dead in our tracks and keeps us from moving forward, from making decisions, or even enjoying life. We are essentially rendered powerless and ineffective. As Christians – that’s a big deal. The kingdom can’t grow if the kingdom isn’t moving.
Fear makes us run the other way. Most of us would rather avoid the confrontation. But avoiding the confrontation means we can never conquer the fear. This is not a problem the enemy has. The enemy gets stronger and we don’t. They’re ready for battle and we position ourselves for defeat.
Fear imprisons us. The more we allow it to control our lives and the decisions we make, the more we’re trapped. We’re unable to enjoy, not only the freedom, but also the blessings God has intended for us (including peace).
The Fear Around Us
If you watch the news or pay attention to social media at all, fear is an ever-present topic. It’s not even disguised anymore. They want you to be afraid.
Be wary of those who perpetuate fear. Understand their true motive is to manipulate and control. Fear yields a tremendous amount of power if it’s not dealt with correctly.
What To Do About Fear?
Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:10
The more we know God and know His names, the more we trust in Him. The more we trust in Him, the less we fear.
Fear has its roots in lies. In my previous post, The War on Truth, I talked about the importance of knowing truth. With truth as our backdrop – our foundation, fear loses its grip and power over us. The devil’s weapon becomes ineffective. The truth does set you free.
Imagine living your life free to make decisions based on things like truth, love, faith, and trust rather than fear and coercion. One is what God wants and one is what the devil wants. Choose to put away fear and put your trust in God. Live the life you were meant to live.
