Love is foundational

Let’s start at the beginning shall we? We just can’t jump into the middle of a building project or even at the end of a work-out routine. We’d be missing some key elements – some very foundational things.

So where do we begin? What is the backbone of the Christian faith? Before you’re tempted to shout out the standard Sunday school answer of “Jesus” – let’s dig a little deeper.

Of course, Jesus is foundational.  You can’t have Christianity without Christ. But I want to look back – way back – to the very beginning.  Or maybe to the “why” of it all.

Why did God create the heavens and the earth?  I believe it’s for the same reason God does everything.  Love!

Faith without love has gaps
We were created out of love, the plan He set in place was planned out of love, the blessings and rewards He doles out are given out of love, the lessons He gives when we’re disobedient are taught out of love, the comfort we get in our pain is given out of love, the course corrections He leads us to when we go astray are directed out of love.

At the core of who God is – is Love.

The Greatest Gift is Love

1st Corinthians chapter twelve list various spiritual gifts given out to God’s followers.  All of these are great gifts themselves but the last verse says this: “And yet I will show you the most excellent way.

There is an even greater way – a greater gift.

We are lead into what is commonly referred to as the “love” chapter. There we learn that if you have any of the previously listed gifts but don’t have love, then it is meaningless.  Let that sink in.  Once again, love is shown to be foundational. Without love, we cannot truly build up any of the gifts.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

The meaning of this verse can be two-fold:

1) The greatest gift we receive from God is love and

2) The greatest gift we can give others is love.

Now we Can Begin to Build

As we go forward – as we try to grow in our faith, walk a little closer with God and deepen our relationship with Him, we’ll start by getting a true grasp of His love for us.

Once we solidly get that down – how immense His love is for us – then we can start building onto that.

I’m looking forward to exploring God’s love more in depth with you.

He’s personally invested in each and every one of us. My goal is to help you believe this so deeply that it changes your entire relationship with God.

In love, Kendra
