Deception is an interesting thing. It’s housed in a beautiful ornate building that entices us in. But once inside we find ourselves surrounded by darkness, immersed in vile mud, and hearing only whispers of lies. Gone is the light of hope, love for others, and sanctity of truth. It’s a dark place – this place of deception. It confines us, strangles us – it makes it hard to breath. It traps us and keeps us from truly being free.
* Free to search out truth
*Free to love others and not tricked into hating them.
It deludes our thinking so that we care more about ourselves than others or doing what is right.
Hope
But there is hope. We don’t have to be trapped in this darkness. All we have to do is walk out. The door is never locked because the devil has no power to keep us anywhere we don’t want to be.
The Choice
However, we can’t/won’t walk out until we recognize we’re there in the first place. Ask yourself if you feel consumed by anger and hate or are you consumed with compassion and love. Do you listen to others or lash out at them? Do you want to rage at the world or fall to your knees? Do you feel that tight, constricting feeling in your chest (or your heart)? Truth doesn’t feel that way. Truth is what sets us free.
Prayer
Father,
I pray you reveal truth to all of us. Deception is a nasty trap any of us can find ourselves in. The devil is a master manipulator. Once inside his trap, he tightens his grip – loosening it only long enough for us to do his dirty work. Open our eyes to see when we are being deceived and give us the strength to step out of the trap.
This prayer isn’t only for us, your believers, but for those that don’t yet know your grace. Shine a light into their dark world and show them the way out. There are great things waiting for them on the side of truth. Joy, love, peace, patience, and kindness to name a few.
May your blessings and mercy be upon us. In Jesus name, Amen.
