If I say freedom is worth fighting for, you might conjure up images of the United States and the revolutionary war. And yes, there are the freedoms our ancestors fought to give us, and that we have through the government (at this point in time anyway) but what about the freedom to be true to ourselves? To be true to Christ? It’s one thing to be told we can’t print our thoughts but it’s another to practically be told we can’t even have those thoughts.
Our freedom to believe what we choose to believe, to express our own thoughts and opinions, to support a person rights (even if we don’t agree with them) or to support an organization, store, or restaurant of our choosing is all being attacked. Cancel culture run amok!
We are increasingly being shamed and bullied into submission. The culture police of a few mean bullies are trying to make us cower and wither. If they can do this, they take away, not only our freedom to be our true selves (which ironically is something they claim to promote), but they also take away our power of unity.
When the Bullies Rule
In a school bully situation, there is usually a small few that create the uncomfortable environment and run the shots. The vast majority of students don’t actually like the bully, his cronies, or even approve of their actions. But – somehow everyone is afraid to stand up for what’s right. No one wants to be on the receiving end of any verbal or physical assault.
What would happen if that majority said “Enough!” and stood up to the bullies – if we refused to cancel people, for example. I’ll tell you what happens…the bullies and their cronies lose their power, and the majority regains theirs.
So why don’t we? What’s going on in the United States? Why is it so many people ranging from the average worker to movie stars to politicians are being forced to conform? They’re being bullied. They’re being threatened with extinction – losing their jobs, their livelihood, their reputations – if they speak thoughts contrary to the bullies. The fear of retribution is keeping people trapped in a prison, unable to be free. If we aren’t allowed to verbalize our own viewpoints. If we’re not allowed to be us – that’s not freedom. It’s oppression.

Turning the Tide
We must stop being afraid! The only reason bullies have power is because we let them. Our desire to be free MUST be stronger than our fear.
I was watching a documentary recently where a commentator said something to the effect that it’s not necessarily the biggest army that wins the war. It’s the army with the most momentum. Right now, the enemy appears to have a lot of momentum. We MUST do what it takes to turn that tide.
How do we do this? Start by fortifying your soul with the Word of God and through prayer. Any good soldier knows you can’t go into battle unprepared. Put on your armor, find peace, and find wisdom. Next, reach out to others who share convictions of truth. The enemy wants us to feel isolated. But we, most definitely, are not alone!!! We will find strength in our numbers and the courage to stand up for truth.

If you haven’t seen the attacks being lobbied against Christians in the recent months, then you aren’t paying attention. We’ve been like the frog in the slow boiling water for the last fifty to sixty years, but the temperature has been moved to “high”. It’s getting hot in here. We’ve got to get out of the pot.
Each of us has to decide what world we want to live in. Will it be in a prison of lies and conformity or will you live in true freedom that only Christ has of offer? Don’t be conned into the idea that you will lose everything. Freedom offers so much more than we can ever lose.
