Join the Movement
The whole town’s in a state of confusion. People aren’t sure what to believe anymore. They just hung the man they call Jesus on a cross. I saw him there, suffering. I saw him die. His body was placed in a fortified tomb. Now people say they spotted him alive. What is happening?
And then – there was that meeting on the day of Pentecost where people began speaking in languages not their own. The apostles (his followers) claiming that Jesus – this resurrected man is the prophesied savior.
There was despair and now there’s hope. The excitement is almost uncontainable. Everyone needs to hear about this.
There IS a movement!
People are talking about Jesus everywhere. There hasn’t been this much hope in a long time and it’s doing amazing things. We are loving each other, we are sharing, we are supplying needs – we are living our lives with a renewed sense of purpose. We now live for Him and not merely for ourselves.
We are a part of something important – something bigger than us. The word must get out. Others are longing to know the hope we have and the joy of salvation. These gifts should be shared and not kept to ourselves. There is too much at stake.
There WAS a movement
Movements often occur in a pattern almost like conversations. There’s inevitably a lull. At the time of Jesus’ death there was a fast-spreading movement of Christianity. There was an excitement of faith.
Over the course of time lulls happen (the excitement wanes and the purpose is forgotten), then revivals happen, then lulls happen again, etc.
Why the Lulls?
What causes the lulls to happen? What causes us to quit feeling like we’re a part of something bigger than ourselves. Is it because we turn inward instead of outward? Why do we stop sharing? Are there not people everywhere (near and far) that still haven’t heard the good news? Is the good news no longer exciting to us – just something we take for granted? What causes this sedentary faith?
The Christian movement has been in a lull for quite some time, but the momentum is about to change.
The Momentum Shift
History tells us there’s usually a momentum shift when major events happen in the world. At first the momentum seems like it’s going the opposite direction and then – boom – there’s a shift. A new movement awakens. This is particularly true with Christianity.
Why is that? Is it because people feel like they’re being put in a corner and don’t like it? Is it because they suddenly realize the freedoms and privileges they’ve been afforded should be defended? Is there is a newfound urge to stand for truth and share that truth with others? Is there an awakening in their Spirit?
The Movement Today
Things going on around us may seem disheartening but, take heart, there is a shift coming. Do you feel it? I hope so.
Personally, I want to be a part of the movement today. I want there to be a shift in the way I live my life – more outward and less inward. I no longer am content with sitting idly by. The good news must be shared! There is too much at stake!
I hope you’ll get excited with me. If ever there was a time and need for a great revival and a great movement – it is now!
